Dr. Jian Ma’s research focuses on the development of novel computational methods to address a fundamental challenge in biology and biomedicine, i.e., how the changes in genome sequence give rise to the differences in phenotypes (at both cellular and organism levels). His group has developed novel algorithms for cross-species comparative genomics. His lab is also actively working on cancer genomics. He is developing methods to systematically and reliably identify different types of genomic changes in order to study their impact on genome function, chromatin and nuclear genome organization, and gene regulation.
